A Republic Wish, Fulfilled?

Is it just a holiday for you?

Or does it signify something more?

The date we declared “Purna Swaraj”,

An oath the country swore.

Republic is what we became,

Our constitution what we proclaimed,

Look how far we came,

Look how we played the game,

Everything’s totally changed, is it really?

Maybe for some it’s still the same.

26th January is a national holiday,

A chance to visit places far away,

Or just be at home to rest, as some would say

Though for some this is a hope’s ray

A chance to earn their bread for the day.

The parade lights up the skies,

Feeling of patriotism shoots sky high,

And the little kid who sells the flags,

His smile brightens up day even more,

When you buy a flag from him,

It pushes open happinesses’ door,

His lil business booms on this date,

Giving him a chance to try to change his fate.
