Vipul Gupta, force behind Lens Academy, a renowned photography training institute that’s revolutionising photography one teenage kid at a time, is one of the more daring people out there. Electrical Engineer by qualification, having worked in the IT industry for more than two decades, both on-shore and off-shore (Check his IT profile  on Linkedin), he took the road less travelled by when he shifted lanes from IT to photography, the love of his life.

Vipul found his another passion in teaching. He started imparting his IT knowledge to buddying IT professionals by teaching them Software programming. Later he started helping ICSE and CBSE students also through tuitions and doubt classes in Java and Python which is part of the Computer Applications subject. He has helped multiple students understand Java and Python in much better way and has helped them make these subjects cake walk for them in exams. He is still helping out students who need his guidance in any of the following programming languages; JAVA, Python, HTML, JavaScript (JS), CSS, JSP.

Vipul’s tryst with photography began when he was thirteen and his father handed him his Rolleiflex camera in late 1980s. Since his father was also an amateur photographer, it wasn’t unusual that Vipul developed a keen interest in the field, but what was striking was the passion that he developed which didn’t just survive but rather grew exponentially with that 13 year old boy.

Under the mentorship of legendary photographer Sri Raghu Rai, Vipul got trained in commercial photography by renowned photographer Mr. Nitin Rai at Raghu Rai Center for Photography. With this he embarked on his journey of professional photography where he worked for various clients across various business domains nationally and internationally.

He has worked in most of the genres of photography ranging from product, food, fashion, portraiture, wildlife, sports, landscape, macro, you just name it. Although his favourites have been wildlife, low light, landscape and macro.

Being a technologist gave him an edge – just as the world of photography was evolving with rapidly changing technology, so was Vipul. He has experience of working with almost all types of cameras; from the ancient ones to the latest DSLRs. 

Having gained such a deep understanding of the field, and after clicking thousands of pictures for various clients, he now additionally aims to impart this knowledge to budding photographers, for he believes that a kid as young as one in 6th standard can, and will become an excellent photographer if given the right guidance. And his students have proved their mettle. At his institute and across various prestigious schools of Delhi-NCR, Vipul is teaching kids just over 13 years of age to not just use a DSLR but to click pictures with like a pro. His sixth-grade students have beaten students from senior classes as high as twelfth-grade and won Inter-school photography competitions.

And that is just the beginning.
