There’s a very famous proverb “Grass always looks greener on the other side.”
Well I don’t know about the other side but recently I stumbled upon the de facto truth that people rarely spare even a minute to appreciate the grass that they do have.
Too much grass talk, right? I know. It’s just that sometimes you come across people whose stories, whose lives, leave such a mark on your mind that you’re compelled to think about things you normally don’t want to think about.
The art of practicing gratitude, of saying ‘Thank you’ to the universe that you have a disease-free body, a loving family around, that you’re financially okay etc etc looks good only in self-help books, right? I mean who has time for such stuff? WRONG.
Life being nasty isn’t a clandestine affair. But some people don’t have it easy. Some people get to see the tougher side of life. Past week only I came across an old man who had lost his vision due to cataract and being uneducated, was unaware of the surgical solution for a long time. He had given up all hopes of seeing the world once again from his own eyes. Cataract surgery brought back his vision.
If I close my eyes, it becomes difficult to navigate even in my own house; just imagine the plight of someone who could see everything before and nothing after. My mind was churning these thoughts when the old man told me his tale. And when he opened his eyes for the first time after surgery, I was there to capture the astonished, happy, heart-moving expression.
There were two pairs of moist eyes that day, and two hearts that whispered, THANKS.
