It is a paradox that exists
In the vox populi,
That life has hegemony over death.
And it’s in this clichéd vanity
That one forgets lifes’ sobriquet,
Fragile.
You see past this mirage,
Only when death comes
In its vicious visage.
It’s only when the veneer falls away
That you see the veracity of the day.
Vicarious experiences don’t matter anymore
Once you have travelled to death’s shore
And you see before your eyes
The vestiges of your life,
Waning, vanishing.
You exist in a jeopardized state,
Like a mere toy,
Trifled by vicissitudes of fate.
It’s only when on you fate smiles,
And it vouchsafes your life,
That death turns into an admonition
And you think it’s because of your volition.
After all it’s not every day
That life veers your way,
You feel so grateful,
Life seems verily vivified,
Celebrate voraciously,
It is death you have defied.
